Restoration SPAIN 2015

Join Restoration Journeys in breathtaking Spain!

Our journey will begin in Barcelona, a city that is rich with cultural history and full of life on the Mediterranean coast. Barcelona differs from other Spanish cities having two official languages & cultures, Catalan and Spanish.  English is also widely spoken.Explore and enjoy all that Barcelona has to offer while staying in the center of the city. We will spend time learning about many forms of restoration in Spain at the ECORE School who specialize in all forms of restoration, as well as tour the Picasso Museum, marvel at Gaudi’s Basilica de la Sengrada Familia, and experience Barcelona’s culture along the famous Las Ramblas. You will have time to explore Barcelona on your own; shop in boutiques; and enjoy not only the wonderful Spanish cuisine, but Catalan as well!

From Barcelona our group will travel on to  Seville in Southern Spain via high speed train. Seville is an amazing city with a mix of cultures from Spanish to Arab and influences from Roman to Jewish.  Here you will  be able to take advantage of optional day trips to the National Park of Donana and Jerez. On our last day in Seville you will spend an afternoon at a local Bodega to learn about and taste Spanish wine, and have dinner with a Flamenco show.

From Seville, we will travel together to Granada.  Granada is a city rich in history dating back to 5500 B.C.  Granada is most known for the Alhambra,  a Moorish palace-citadel from the 13th & 14th century that over looks Granada and includes the royal quarters, the court complexes, a bath and a mosque.  You will tour the Alhambra and learn about restoration during our visit.  Also enjoy the local cuisine through cooking specialized for our group.

From Granada our group will travel to Malaga, one of the oldest cities in the world, for the day to see the birthplace of Picasso and the Roman Theater.  After lunch our travels will take us to the heart of Spain to experience Madrid!  You will visit the world famous Prado Museum, admire the Royal Palace, and tour the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum.  We will have the opportunity in Madrid to tour the Royal Tapestry Factory (Real Fabrica de Tapices). This factory, founded in 1721, creates tapestries by hand using the loom techniques from the 18th century and rugs in the Turkish and Spanish knot techniques.  They also restore and preserve these works in their specialized workshop that enables them to use the latest techniques in conservation. “The methodology, installations and team of the Real Fábrica de Tapices places us as among the main international leaders in the field of conservation of tapestries and historic textiles.”   This visit is truly a once in a lifetime experience for those who are passionate in the creation and conservation of textiles.  Our Spanish experience will conclude in Madrid with a farewell reception and dinner.
